UKCCSRC Digital Data Deposit Application
This data deposit application enables you to deposit digital data with the UK Carbon Capture and Storage Research Centre (UKCCSRC) Data and Information Archive. The archive provides professional, long-term management of UK Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) data. It is recommended that you review the UKCCSRC data deposition guidelines. before you begin this process. See also UKCCSRC Data FAQs
UKCCSRC grant funded projects are required to deposit data as part of their funding conditions. Data provided on a voluntary basis will be ingested, subject to meeting the NERC Data Value Checklist.
How to use the UKCCSRC Data Deposit Application
When packaging up your data to deposit it with the UKCCSRC, you should consider the following:
- You must be the owner, or have permission from the owner to deposit the data.
- To get your digital files ready to upload:
- Make sure your data is complete and it is the final version. Your data cannot be edited once deposited.
- Consistently include header rows and scientific units relating to any measurements.
- Have all acronyms explained and use consistent naming conventions (guidance on naming strategy).
The deposit process can be completed in more than one session, using the 'Save for Later' option. You will be asked to provide the following information:
- A title and description of the data that you are depositing.
- Summary of Methodology (lineage) used to generate or collect the data (e.g. scientific standards, instrumentation, software, code or data collection methodologies used).
- Keywords that help describe the data and would facilitate searching.
- Date range during which the data was collected.
- An idea of the geographical extent of the data (if this is applicable).
- Your contact details.
- Any access or use restrictions on the data.
- Ideally the data should be 'open' data, allowing it to be discovered and re-used by other interested parties.
- Only one data-access type (either open or restricted) can be applied to an entire donation. If your donation contains both open and restricted data, you will need to split your data into sections and donate each section separately, otherwise the open portion of your data will not be visible to our open web systems.
- If your data is generated as a result of a UKCCSRC, EPSRC or NERC funded grant you will also require the grant number.
- A donation may contain datasets that underpin publications. In these cases, the NGDC is interested in holding the data and Digital Object Identifier (DOIs) for publications (if known). A DOI should be requested for each dataset and quoted in the Data Availability section of the publication.
File size/quantity recommendations
The recommended number of files we advise you to upload through this application is 20 files per session. Please note that folders or folder structures containing files cannot be uploaded unless they are compressed into a single zip file. We advise that the maximum single file size limit is 1GB. If you experience any difficulties using this application or need to deposit a greater number of files or larger sized files, please contact ukccsrc_data@bgs.ac.uk.
